Experience
With the help of an academic scholarship, I was able to graduate cum laude from Virginia Wesleyan College with my bachelor's degree. During my time as a student, I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to study Spanish abroad for a semester in Puebla, Mexico, while taking classes at the University of Madera. Since graduating from college, I started working as a social studies teacher for the Norfolk Public School System, where I've been teaching a number of subjects, including homeroom for seventh-grade students. A large portion of my experience has been centered around teaching both gifted students and those with learning disabilities. I believe that teaching has provided some of the most rewarding experiences in my life. Not only have I been able to help students gain the skills needed to succeed in the classroom and out in the professional world, I've also participated in a mentorship program for young girls, as well as created mock trials, debate teams, and assisted with STEM programs. I believe that education goes beyond test prep, and needs to help students prepare to become world citizens who have the skills necessary to succeed in life. When I'm not teaching, I like to spend my time outdoors with my friends and family.
