Experience
I have been teaching and tutoring for 40 years. I specialize in teaching English and Spanish languages and cultures. I have taught students ranging in age from pre-k to postgraduate students and am willing to teach any student who really wants to learn. I love to look at linguistics as a big game where you put the puzzle pieces together (the pieces being words) to create the final picture. I teach enthusiastically, and many of my students become enthusiastic about their studies as a result. When I tutor, I also adapt my lesson plans to every student's unique personality and style of learning. I earned my bachelor's degree in Languages and Linguistics at Georgetown University. Since then, I have taught Spanish and Portuguese at Michigan State University, taught every grade of school from kindergarten to 12th grade, created curriculum for many grade levels, and taught home schooled groups. I have traveled throughout Mexico, lived in Hawaii, and lived in Brazil for a year. My time in Brazil was spent in San Paulo with a local family, after being awarded an American Field Service Scholarship. I have also lived in five states, and I love to travel. In my free time, I enjoy studying the Incan and Mayan empires and learning more about early Spanish explorers.
